Activities for Guests

With its unique history, beautiful grounds and activities for guests, Bungaree Station offers much more than just a bed for the night.

Self-Guided Tours of the Historic Station Complex

A series of audio posts, signs and displays around the village-like property enable small groups and individuals to explore at their own pace. Visit the Station Store, Stableyard, Homestead Gardens, St Michael’s Church and Woolshed and learn more about South Australia’s pioneering past and insights into the people who lived and worked at Bungaree.

This is complimentary for guests staying at Bungaree, but is also available for day visitors at $15 per person and $7.50 per child, every day between 10am - 4pm, except when the property is closed for private functions. No pre-booking is required, and refreshments (including fresh coffee, Clare Valley wines and beers and cheese platters) can be purchased from the Station farm shop.

Interacting with Animals

Available exclusively to guests staying at Bungaree, children and animal lovers may also enjoy coming to feed some of the animals with us in the mornings - this takes about an hour, normally from 9am, although this may vary with the season and our team will advise you when you check-in for your accommodation. Younger children should be accompanied by an adult and we reccommend wearing comfortable shoes as we will be walking across paddocks while we are collecting eggs, patting deer and kangaroos, and meeting sheep and horses. Depending on the season, we may also have younger animals to care for, such as lambs, joeys or fawns, or newly hatched chickens and ducklings.

Scenic Walking Trail

Guests can explore a 4.5km scenic walking trail through our paddocks, providing beautiful vistas over the farm, with the opportunity to see livestock and native wildlife such as kangaroos. For a more relaxed wander, stop in at the farm shop to borrow a picnic rug and select a bottle of wine and cheese platter to enjoy along the way.

We spent an enjoyable hour or two following the self-guided tour. Storyboards, taped audio and some video helped to illustrate the life and history of this Station. Well organised. The church was a highlight. A chance to experience some of South Australia's rural history.

Cycling around the Station Complex and Further Afield

Many children also bring their bicycles to cycle around the station complex. Those feeling more adventurous could cycle along the Clare Valley’s Riesling Trail (beginning 6km from Bungaree; with a total length of 33kms).

Local bicycle hire is available in Clare, with delivery of bicycles to Bungaree also available if required.

Farm 4WD Tour

For those who wish to learn more about farming at Bungaree, a personal guided tour of the farm in a 4 wheel drive vehicle is available by prior arrangement only at $198 for groups of up to 4 people. This 1.5 hour tour includes an overview of the history and evolution of the property, as well as a tour of the modern farming enterprise (including cropping, sheep and deer).

Fabulous! So relaxing! Loved the long, scenic walks, peace and quiet of the countryside. Thank you for your hospitality.

Swimming Pool

Guests staying at Bungaree are welcome to enjoy the saltwater swimming pool located in the Homestead Gardens during warmer months.

Bonfires

During cooler months, small bonfires can be arranged (cost for wood/setup), perfect for toasting marshmallows or sipping local wines under the stars.

Farm Shop

Pop into the Station Store to pick up your morning coffee, purchase some Bungaree lamb or peruse other local produce. The sun-filled patio outside is a perfect setting for enjoying a cheese platter with a bottle of Clare Valley Riesling, while those who need to keep in touch with the outside world can take advantage of the free WiFi internet.

Other On-Site Group Activities

By prior arrangement, other activities are available for groups including guided tours of the station complex, private yoga classes and creative "paint and plonk" sessions with a local artist.

Hassle-Free Catering

The self contained cottages are equipped with modern kitchens as well as BBQs outside, but if you have relaxed into holiday mode and would like to "dine in" without the hassle of food preparation, by prior arrangement, we can deliver dinner packs to your accommodation - perfect for quiet nights in after a busy day of wine tasting in the Clare Valley.

Alternatively, pop into the farm shop to pick up all the ingredients for a cheese platter, and perhaps also some Clare Valley wine and beer.

Lovely old sheep station with the old stone farm buildings beautifully restored. A barbecue pack of food took us two nights to eat with lovely local meats and sausages made from their own lambs. The owning family were very friendly, interesting and helpful. We had three glorious days here exploring the local area and wandering around the property.
