Cosy Up in the Clare Valley this Winter

Cosy Up in the Clare Valley this Winter

It’s no surprise that the Clare Valley is a popular destination for cosy winter weekends. Frosty nights that are perfect for snuggling in front of the fire lead onto beautifully crisp, blue sky days to explore our picturesque region. Whether its a family holiday or a romantic weekend, you will find the Clare Valley well worth the 90 minute drive from Adelaide.

We invite you to “become a local” and discover what we love about the cooler months at Bungaree and the wider Clare Valley, including:

  • The Clare Valley is known for its clear, crisp nights in Winter, making it the perfect time for either snuggling in with a cracking bottle of Clare Valley Shiraz or Cabernet in front of the fire inside – or stargazing beside the warmth of a bonfire outside. Most of our accommodation buildings have wood combustion heaters (as well as reverse cycle airconditioning) and by prior arrangement a bonfire can also be set up by your accommodation at Bungaree – just don’t forget to pack the marshmallows!
  • Cool, clear days to enjoy exploring the Riesling Trail. Join the locals at Saturday morning’s parkrun, hire a bike or walk along the tranquil Riesling Trail through townships, vineyards and farms. If the weather changes, use the excuse to pop into one of the wineries, bakeries or cafes along the way, but be warned, this could easily turn into a long lunch.
  • Catching a glimpse of the past, as you really feel like you’re stepping back in time when you visit properties like Martindale Hall and Bungaree Station during the quieter midweek period. Refreshments, including fresh coffee, a range of local wines and beers, and produce platters are also available to enjoy at the recently renovated Station Store at Bungaree – along with free WiFi if you need to stay “connected”.
  • Choose your favourite cellar door for a tasting session, tailored to your tastebuds, and afterwards, perhaps settle in in front of their fire with one of your favourite wines.
  • Long lunches at wineries and pubs, where the wine, food and beautiful surrounds perfectly complement eachother. Our favourite spots for cosy Winter lunches include Pikes Winery, Skillogallee, Reillys and Pauletts.
  • Appreciating the local art scene, including the many exhibitions being held throughout August for the SALA festival.
  • Get a dose of retail therapy, including visiting the beautifully styled farmhouse studio showcasing Mickelloo and other Australian designers, or popping into Lalt, Open House, Peekaboo Kidz or some of the other great shops in the region.
  • Relaxed dinners at a restaurant or pub, where the chef may pop out of the kitchen to give you a rundown on today’s menu. The creative menus at Terroir, Umbria and Seed showcase local produce at its best. If you’re staying midweek, you shouldn’t miss Wednesday’s “local appreciation night” at Terroir, Thursday’s “communal table” at Seed or the special “Umbria in the Vines” evenings, where you’ll be mingling with Clare Valley characters while enjoying some of the finest local produce.

To celebrate cosy weekends in the country, Bungaree is currently offering a “Winter Special” on available accommodation for stays of 3 or more nights between 22 July through to 26 September, with savings of 15% off normal prices. You can check availability and make a booking online or by contacting Bungaree Station.
