SA History Festival Events at Bungaree
We will be hosting two special events at Bungaree as part of South Australia’s History Festival in May 2019. Home renovators and owners of heritage buildings will be fascinated by a special guided tour exploring restoration of Bungaree’s historic buildings, while for those who would like to explore the iconic station at their own pace, a self guided tour will be available daily.
Exploring heritage building restoration at Bungaree
Guided tour at 10am, Sunday 12 May
$18.70 per adult and $9.35 per child.
Bookings are essential but can be made by phone, email or online (via Eventbrite).
Heritage buildings can be regarded as assets or liabilities, and throughout its 177 year history, the beautiful buildings at Bungaree have been seen as both. This informal guided walk around the station complex (including church, woolshed, store, stableyard and Homestead Gardens) will explore how the challenge of restoration and maintenance of heritage-listed buildings has been approached by the Hawker family to ensure their preservation for future generations. Morning tea will be provided, along with a discussion on various restoration issues and heritage trades, from stonemasonry and joinery through to blacksmithing and stained glass conservation.
The story of Bungaree Station
Self guided tour available daily, 10am – 4pm
$15 per adult and $7.50 per child.
Bookings are not required but can be made by phone, email or online (via Eventbrite).
Explore South Australia’s pioneering past at your own pace with a self-guided tour of iconic Bungaree Station. Established in 1841 by the Hawker family, Bungaree became the headquarters of one of Australia’s most successful sheep flocks. Audioposts and signs around the village-like property (including the woolshed, station store, church, stableyard and homestead gardens) now enable visitors of all ages to step back in time through 178 years of fascinating history. Activity books are available for children. Coffee and tea is available for purchase from the farm shop , along with farm and local produce.
If you would like to stay at Bungaree so you can spend more time enjoying and exploring the property, and the attractions of the Clare Valley, we offer “bed and breakfast” accommodation in heritage-listed buildings around the property, with special rates available for those visitors doing the guided or self guided tour.
